The Environmental Committee has various resources available for students to promote sustainability such as: La FARCE, La Manivelle and Materiuum
Scroll down to explore more about how you can take advantage of the various offers available.
La FARCE
Looking for cheap groceries in Geneva to fit your student budget? La FARCE association has got you covered!
La FARCE offers free distribution of food to Geneva students. The objective is to act against food insecurity and waste, create solidarity and promote social ties, with a view of sustainability.
All you have to do is become a member with an annual fee of CHF 20, which allows students to pick up food every week. Food distributions occur every Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the association’s arcade Rue de Carouge 98.
For more information on becoming a volunteer or becoming a member, visit https://lafarce.ch/.

Matériuum
At Materiuum, you find any equipment and furniture that you would need for your apartment – and for very very cheap!
The EC strongly supports circular economy in Geneva and Materiuum is exactly what we are looking for during a house move or to tinker and make our apartment cosier (#DIY). From nails to light bulbs and wooden frames, Materiuum’s purpose is to extend the life of materials before incineration and instead recycle, re-use and re-employ.
You can find them in the same building as La Manvielle (87, Chemin des Sports | 1203 Genève, Suisse).
If you want to have a look, receive some advice for your DIY idea, or buy second-hand materials, go to Materiuum in person with your student ID and mention that you are a member of the GISA Environmental Committee. Don’t forget to send us some photos of your DIY!

La Manivelle
To promote sustainability and outdoor recreation accessibility, we’ve acquired a year membership with La Manivelle, a cooperative offering rental services for sporting equipment, trekking gear, and tools. As a member, the Graduate Institute becomes a cooperator in this innovative initiative. To ensure fairness, we request that only one person per group/trip makes reservations, allowing others to benefit from this opportunity too.
Here’s how it works: 1) Create an account on manivelle.ch 2) Notify us through our email and we will arrange for La Manivelle to validate your account 4) Once validated, you can borrow equipment for free
(Alternatively, visit their location with your student ID to open an account directly)
Due to high demand, consider reserving in advance by checking their inventory online.
Location: Chemin des Sports 87, 1203 Genève, Suisse.
